David, I know you are a libertarian and do not like the idea of rules where none are needed, but there are many areas where I do believe rules, and policies, are needed for the benefit of the players or the game. You statement that we do not need a rule stating that matches can be recorded and disseminated is something I disagree with. If that is and should be the policy, that policy should be stated so that everyone knows that is the policy. The fact that you think it is implied does not mean that everyone else knows it is implied.
Also, I believe there should be a rules stating that the matches of players in divisions other than the Open division not be publicized without the permission of the players. I believe that is better for the players and for the game. To my knowledge that rule is not written or stated anywhere, just as there is not a rule that i know of that states than any open player's recorded or streamed matches may be publicized without the player's permission.
I believe that now that this has become an issue and a problem, the USBGF, the ABT, each tournament director, and every ruling organization should a) determine what it's policy is, and b) let everyone know what that policy is.
Yes, you are right, if you don't like the rule, you can always walk away...but you can't walk away if you don't know what the rule is.
