I have seen this particular box in use at tournaments and it performs very well indeed. They aren't popular with everyone, but, from a TD's point of view in operation they cause no problems at all. Premature rolls are eliminated and cocked dice are so rare that the use of a box when playing with clocks is a must.

Personally I like to give my dice a bloody good shake and a tumbling roll across the board in my (mistaken) belief that I have control over what might pop out in the end. Of course I have no such control so long as I roll within the rules.

As a player I much prefer dice cups and a good shake, rattle and roll (or a Bill Haley, as I call it); as a TD I prefer a box for an easy life.
