In Response To: My proposal for an event combining PR and winning by score (neilkaz)

My proposal is to forget trying to reward people for getting lucky. That happens plenty in the standard format and I don't think anyone wants to throw out the practice of running those kinds of brackets. But this is a side event to those main events.

My plan caters to playing like a bot. Round robin with a fixed amount ($) for winning a match (lower PR) and some prize structure (probably winner-take-all of the remainder unless you have moderate to large sized fields) for total (or average as computed by bots when they combine matches) error rate at the end of the competition.

For this to work you would need added $ since dividing the purse between match wins and final PR totals spreads the money too thin to give a satisfactory payout. The added money provides extra incentive for players who might think they won't have the best PR but could still show a profit.

Assuming this were a side event at a weekend tournament then something like 6 players is about the limit, and that should be two full days of competition to reach completion. (I want a full RR where everyone plays everyone else.) $1k entry + $6k added. $400 for winning a match and $6k for the lowest aggregate error rate. This competition doesn't eliminate all the luck since the dice will make some matches more difficult than others. And added money seems to be pie-in-the-sky right now in backgammon, except for some casinos but I assume they are wanting to let everyone in on the loot, not just the top players.
