The new rule REDUCES controversy, because the dice can be slightly cocked, whether its on top of a checker or not, and the roll still counts...just as it does in a casino at a craps table. As long as it is obvious what number is prominent, there is no reason to roll over just because the dice is on edge a little bit, or leaning against a checker, or stuck between two checkers and is not exactly flat. Once you get that old cocked rule completely out of your head, and once you simply try this new approach, as we did for an entire tournament, you will see the benefits. Virtually NO ROLLING OVER.
By the way, my brother and I have played with this rule for 40 years, and we even allow the roll if the dice land on the wrong side of the board. There is no good reason to roll over except that long ago someone decided to make that the rule.
