Baffle Box Update

You still use the clock delay to contemplate doubling, overall strategy, count pips, etc.
And the fact that your opponent will be able to complete his turns faster, means you have less time to do the above during his turn, thus on some moves needs more time to do so on your own turn.
I've discussed this a great deal when considering clock rules for live play on XG Mobile (iPad = electronic dice).
It depends on the type of game you're playing (what kind of decisions you're making), and it varies much from player to player.
I'd not be inclined to cut time away from the 12 seconds per move, base on Bafflebox (no cup) play - even though I estimate that you save about 1 second on average on the mechanics of rolling - thus the "perceived" time saved taking the above into consideration, would probably be around half a second per move - something most clocks can't adjust.
For XG Mobile (iPad) play (still vs. live opponent), I'd recommend using a real physical clock, and going from 12 seconds to 11 seconds delay.

Baffleboxes should be a must in speed play IMHO. In regular play they should be used if players don't trust their opponents to throw an honest random roll. The rules should allow for preference when needed (depending on the event/importance of the match), and should always give the Director the opportunity to force box play on a given match.
This has been the DBgF rules for years.
