Make sure to distinguish between "what will make BG better for ME" and "what will make BG better in the larger picture". Often these are the same, but not always.

I'm surprised you, at 31 (right?) being easily one of the youngest players at US tournaments wouldn't mention the lack of young people. If we can get young people interested, not only will the game improve in the short term, but thrive in the long run.

Easier said than done, but getting backgammon into high schools would be a plus, IMO. They have chess, bridge, and Scrabble (although I doubt any of those is a huge draw to the cellphone generation). BG is doable. Not every principle or schoolboard is a Bill Frist clone.
