What Backgammon Needs to Thrive

Your point about getting a clock through security is the ONLY valid argument I've ever seen against individuals providing the clocks. May I suggest "checked luggage"? (And I duck as several clocks get tossed at my head. :)
(BTW, I do think it would be hard to hack the GameTime II. Yes, it could be done, just as precision dice can be loaded. Which do you think would happen first??)
If we want clocks, then we should be willing to put up with a bit of pain to get them instituted. I don't think it's fair to directors/promoters to put the onus on them.
A clocked match takes one clock for two players. So a 50% supply by the players would (in theory) cover the beginning of the tournament. Directors have a few in reserve, anyway, to cover the inefficiencies.
BTW, I have two GT-II's (and used to have three -- I gave one to Jeb as a prize for his tournament last year). Originally I thought about giving the clock as a door prize but quickly realized that in the current environment, the chances of that NOT collecting dust (as Matt says) was small.
Forget about forcing clocks on intermediates, etc. We in the Open should set the example. We haven't come close to doing that. The bottom line is, if you really care and want something done, provide more than lip service by telling someone else to do it. Those of us who want clocks need to lead by our actions, not just our words.
