Chouette order rule - has anyone played this way? How common/uncommon is it?

I played in a chouette that did this. It was a group of players from Florida. As soon as I was told that I did NOT get the box after being dropped as captain, I cashed out and found another game. This is the worst rule I've ever seen in Chouette. I don't think it's common.
