I'm not sure how valuable it is to bend over backwards trying to "explain" these counterintuitive results when they're close enough that there's some chance that 25 years from now we'll have to figure out how to "explain" the opposite result emerging from whatever bot we're worshiping then. But if we want to pursue this, the pseudocubeless results suggest considering gammons.
