I dont see the value in not hitting. The race is too close, and there are possible gammons here. So, hit, but how? Of the two ways to do it, either making the 2pt, or loosely from the 8, I think I prefer the latter - it adds useful 6s, doesnt blot on good rolls like 66, and allows for more continuation plays inside the homeboard if necessary.
