I'm not going to get into who is on my ballot. I will say that I tally most of the multi-day, open events competed in US and Europe over the past two years (only) and base my votes on who has been doing well. If you want more details I can give them, but basically it's an objective system. If you don't show up in the results (and it's got to be more than one cash no matter what that cash was) then you're not on my ballot, I don't care how many World Championships you've won.

But I will comment on one of your players even though more than that deserve discussion: Gus Hansen. First off, he seems like a decent guy, obviously a very smart guy with very good gambling instincts. He's analytical (my style so of course I like that part of him) and very successful... at poker.

So what has he accomplished in backgammon? I've been keeping track of US and European tournament results for eight years now, and his name has shown up maybe once (and note the word 'maybe'). Does that mean he's a bad player. No. But it casts doubt on 'giant 32'. I hear through the grapevine that he's an excellent money player, and I can believe that. OTOH, is "through the grapevine" gossip all it takes to make the giants list?

If Gus Hansen weren't world famous in poker, would we even be discussing him??
