I still don't get it. Why should player 4 get anything? Do you perhaps mean the player who got 4th place? If so why should he get as much as the player who won the consolation? 2nd place main and winning the consolation normally get the same amount so why should player 2 get more than player 3?

In case b did you do for 16$ first, 15$ player 2nd and 14$ player third? My example was 16$ player first, 1$ player 2nd and 2$ player third.
