OTish: i5 or i7 for XG?

here in Germany the i7 is about 40% more expensive than the i5. Looks like much... but if you relate this to the total amount of expense for your new PC it's much less than 40%.

Most applications don't make much use of more than 4 cores (it's not dead easy, in fact it's difficult. If you are interested why see here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amdahl%27s_law) but XG does a pretty good job.

So usually I recommend an i5, but if you buy a new PC and your main application makes good use of all resources (which XG does), then go with the i7.
