In Response To: Will we ever see a genuine backgammon prodigy? (Long) (Daniel Murphy)

Yes, I believe that even if the backgammon community were as large, and as young, as the chess community, no 14-year-old would ever be as good as the top 1-2% of seasoned adult players (And I also believe that a PR of 4 or under would likely put you in that top 1-2%). If there were a million serious backgammon players of all ages, no child would be ranked in the top 10,000, unlike in chess, where Fischer, Carlsen and others were winning national championships at 14 and even younger.
