Prop. And an idea for a USBGF-sponsored challenge for kids

I think your terms are more than fair, if you allow one amendment to Mochy's Under-Four requirements. Here are Mochy's terms, copied (more or less) from Paul Weaver's Dec 27, 2013, post, except for a change I made to #3, disallowing private matches:

1) The child would have to play ten matches (each longer than 7 points). They must be played in public with a clock and recorded. 2) The child has to state to Mochy in advance that a given match is one of the ten. No one gets to decide after the match if counts or not. 3) The matches must be tournament matches, so that both players are trying seriously, and the veracity of the match recording can be reasonably assured. 4) Matches should be analyzed by XG2 world class and stored on a computer. 5) After the child's ten matches have been played, Mochy will analyze all of them with XG2, and XG will compute the average PR. If the child's average in these ten matches is under 4, he/she becomes a member of Under 4 club. Mochy posts all matches on his blog, including info on opponents and locations. If the average PR is over 4, the child must wait at least a month before trying again.

So, for purposes this prop the 10 matches have to be tournament matches. Club tournaments count as well, as long as the other requirements above are met. In other words, private matches, with private or non-existent stakes and unenforceable playing conditions and recording standards, don't count.

Agreed? If so, name your stake. How do you know I will pay if I lose? You will have to take me at my word, as I will have to take you at yours.

What would be even better is if the child got the money, in the form of a grant or a scholarship, if he/she succeeded. That's a bet I wouldn't mind losing. In fact, if the USBGF would sanction such a challenge per the terms above (or something similar -- I remain convinced that 4 PR is too low for kids, and something more like 5 or 5.5 would be more realistic.), I would contribute toward the winning child's grant/scholarship. I believe others might be willing to help endow such a grant as well. Part of the USBGF's mission is promoting the game to young people (I sure hope so, anyway.). A specific, achievable goal with a substantial financial incentive just might inspire some talented kids to get serious about Backgammon.
