Chouette rule prevalence: no consulting until the cube is turned

Have only played in chouettes w/ rule: cube or shut up-lol. By cubing,you are allowed to consult on plays. The rules,however, can vary from place to place. In California, I think that they play a lot of non consulting chouettes.I have seen chouettes where if 1 player cubes all are free to consult. Personally, I don't like that rule.
