OK, like in soccer when sometimes it does not make sense to try for a goal if you can kill time passing the ball. Or the inverse in basketball, when you foul your opp to have hopefully get some misses and the ball.

Part of the attraction of American Football might be these strategic play choices, lots of opportunity for second-guessing!
