PR difference affecting the gameplay

I have personally taken many people from 10 to 8 in a very short period of time, as you say. Usually, just learning a few key concepts about the cube and checker play and the PR can easily drop 2 points.
I have also worked with people around 5 PR, and with study, time, and effort, many will go to 6 PR.
I am not kidding. But eventually, once they truly learn to adjust their game to new concepts, they have the potential to go to 4.5 or 4.
I use the analogy of driving a car. We can teach a beginner to become a very good driver. And he can be a very good driver for many years. But what it takes to turn a good driver into a racing car driver requires a very different kind of mind and skillset and determination. Yes, I believe that just about anyone can learn, with time and work, to become a 5 or 6 PR player, but I am not sure anyone can become less than a 5.
(I am talking about truly averaging the stated PR over a long period of time in matches exceeding 5 points. And I believe that if you ask the average player what his PR is you can safely give him 10-1 odds that he can't average that over 10 7-point monitored matches.)
I also agree with statements that money games are easier, but because of the size of a "typical" cube error, I still don't believe that very many people who play matches would have a much lower money PR. Now, there are many who play virtually only for money who of course would have very high match PR's, but that is simply because they haven't studied match play. But people like me, and most seasoned tournament players who also play a lot for money, I doubt have much more than about 1.0 PR difference between their money and match PR.
I keep separate profiles for match, money, and DMP play, and while DMP is far lower, the other two are pretty close, and this is after many years of watching these numbers.
