I would play 18/10, leaving 32 shots instead of 21. First, if we play 18/13 4/1* and get hit, we lose. White will pick up another checker pretty much for sure. If white only hits one checker, and we only leave one blot with 18/10, we are still going to win the race about a quarter of the time. Secondly, 18/10 looks much easier to clear. If we do get missed, it leaves fewer residual shots.
