In Response To: Tournament Added Money - Effective Use of Funds? (Max Levenstein)

good question,

In pool(here we go again), added $$$ as a rule did help tourney attendance with out a doubt and the players seemed to have a more upbeat opinion of the added $$$ events compared to the no-added $$$ ones. Even though only a hand full of them actually realized any gain from the added $$. They just had the impression they were getting a better "Deal". Pool pays deeper down than BG in a 64 player player field sometimes its 16 places, 8 for sure. So the added $$ did reach more people.

IMO the perception of added money is stronger than the collection of added $$$ by the few players who actually receive any of the "bigger" pie. I believe that holds true in BG and all walks of life. The Power Ball is a horrible bet but the perception of $$ makes people act differently. push the greed buttons and people will damn near do anything,

The real question is is the ROI of added money the highest and best use of that money?

My answer is possibly if the distribution of the money was done properly. Then its the who gets what problem.

If there was $12,000 in money to be added(just for easy math this morning), Adding $1000 to 12 tourneys, i'm assuming one each month again for easy math. My opinion is $1,000 is not going to move the needle. Too many players chasing too little $. Again only my opinion.

Now if the $12,000 was added to one tourney, I believe the turn out would be much higher than the $1,000 added event. I'm sure everyone here would agree with that for the most part.

Those are the 2 extremes spread it far and wide or shoot the bank roll all at once.

The problem is all at once, who gets it? and everyone else is cut short. the other problem I see is $1000 at a time isnt moving the needle and bleeding $ with a very ROI. Kinda like sales tax, its a slow drain but if we all had the sales tax we individually spent refunded by our State we live in it would be a big check. My point is $1000 added or raked from a prize pool makes no difference in the short term. Like sales tax, rarely is it considered in day to day spending.

Having said that, IMO only i do think $5000 added less often might move the needle. Again who gets it when and how much is a potential problem. And I offer no solution.

I think if a solution to the problem i just mentioned $5,000 added once instead of 5 times could be solved, then the ROI of the added money would be noticeable.

if that distribution of funds problem(kinda like our wonderful Federal Govt) could be solved it's worth doing.

If It cant be solved, then the $1000 should be saved and used for something more constructive.

that's how I see it, I apologize for my poor grammar, however I stand by my opinion strongly. And its kinda funny I'll never see a $1 of it no matter what. I said what I did because I want whats best for BG and perhaps something I said will spawn a good idea.

best eric

ps too lazy to edit. :-)
