I automatically made the bar point here. The race is about even, so blocking seemed useful and making a landing point for incoming checkers seemed good too. Plus it's a 61! 6 and 1 and an empty bar point go together like a horse and carriage...and a third thing that would go with a horse and carriage all the time. 8/1 made sense, of course, but it never would have occurred to me to play 13/6, leaving that gap there when it could be so nicely filled in. Thank you all for the good explanations.
