Are ABT Tournaments a big deal?

I see the ABT was established in 1993 but my googling doesn't tell me who the board for sanctioning tournaments is or what the requirements of a tournament director might be or even what the ABT is.

Is the USBGF the sanctioning body or is ABT a different body? Is it a non profit organization or is it a business?

Can someone enlighten me? A URL to the organization charter would be nice
