Interesting observation of Summerall's own actions. I think it's another (of many) examples of how a person's public personality is a lot different than their real life personality.

Pat Summerall used to be CBS's most versatile announcer, akin to the role Jim Nance plays today. Surprisingly he was an NFL player, specifically a place kicker. (Well, many REAL football players don't consider that an actual football position.) Summerall-Madden was at one time a network A-team, I think for Fox.
