Making the 18pt looks very pretty. I guess the game plan for the follow-up would be to consolidate more before hitting. If worse came to worst, Blue could alway play a holding game against White's midpoint, but he might get some action before that.

The alternative is to hit now. Unfortunately, the two numbers that would be blocked from the bar, 4 and 6, play well for White elsewhere. Nevertheless, hitting has its advantages. If you view this as a struggle for outfield control, hitting might be the best play. Hitting also erases 31 as a cover number for White.

After this move the race lead for White will be 49 pips. That's not enough for Blue to play a deep backgame. If Blue hits, and then White hits back, Blue's timing for a backgame may improve. Before Blue tries those tactics, however, I think he should secure his second anchor!

OTB, I would spend a little time with this, and probably decide to make the 18pt.
