Being "obvious that one should have noticed" is a strange rule. It can easily happen without ill intent. For example if one is in that situation I would say it is also obvious that the player whose clock is running should have noticed as well. Also is a rule that says what may or may not happen with 6 options given really a rule?

Suppose that a player doubles and doesn't hit the clock. I was in that situation once and did not notice because I was busy thinking about my cube action. Is it obvious that I should have noticed?
