In Response To: lynch law in Chicago? (niuniuch)

It seems unlikely that, an athlete who has potentially trained for years, probably several hours a day, and made so many sacrifices might, near the finish of a major marathon (Olympics?) - and possibly teetering on the edge of collapse themselves - go from around 20km/h to zero to help a fellow athlete get to his feet, and then walk/jog him to the finish. Particularly when this action may lead to the fallen runners disqualification anyway. There are medics and officials who can assess the situation. They should determine what intervention, if any, is appropriate.

If you stop, and sacrifice your own race for this guy, it denudes the result of anyone who then passes you. Do they then refuse to accept their medal, insisting that you take their position on the rostrum instead?

All-out sport is not without risk.
