In Response To: Some Reflections for You to Consider Please, Michel (Dorn Bishop)

I think we are in a period where the backgammon's rules are changing drastically, from must entering if in bear off you put an own checker on the you to pointing out to your opponent about hitting the clock. I like the sportmanship but for me this is too much, the clock is part of the game as in chess where no one is ashamed of winning on time, why should be in a game where most of the time the result is decided by pure luck ? I agree about legal checker moves, on line is not possible to have its so neither should be live.

The turn ends when the clock is hit, situation with closed board is particular, what worries me now after this decision is that in every match where someone forgets to hit the clock and keeps on moving any player at some time could claim the position must be restored to the one before the thing happened.

I think Michel should accept the decision as a fair one after Rory's full explanation, the tournament was legal moves only. Trying to win on time was ok but something illegal happened, the turn was non ended but you can't roll and move twice in the same turn.

Another thing from chess, when a referee is called he always looks at the position to see who has the interest to take some advantage by speculating and normally goes against them, in backgammon should be the same and I would say most of the times it is.
