When quoting rules one should say which set they are. The rule Michael quoted is from BIBA (British Isles Backgammon Association). If you are playing or spectating in G.B. note that that the UKBGF rules might instead be used and they specifically indicate that a spectator should not directly indicate any illegal actions to the players.
