Although the style of play and commentary is from a bygone era, the basic idea of learning through master play is a good one. Barclay Cooke's point that it is better to learn from the full context of an entire match than isolated "problems" which are naturally abstract and to me always a little confusing. The duplicate format itself though is not very interesting or valid.

Now that there is more recording of matches, a good book could follow a top player from the first match to the finals, looking in detail at every play and match. What were all the players thinking, etc., and to also include the other player in the finals all the way from beginning to end. Rather an expanded version of Marty Storer's Backgammon Praxis.
