And you should adjust your game if you are playing a worse player -- you should avoid pure running games; you should drop sooner if gammon risks are higher and you should avoid higher cubes...
Surprised no one has commented on this. Does no one read Phil's posts? :)
Devil is in the details, but I think you and I see things much differently. E.g.
1) How do you play opening 6-5 against a worse player?
2&3) I recall Neil saying "if someone is going to beat me they're going to have to do it by showing me they know how to move their checkers".
Bots do pretty well against worse players, and I have lots of evidence to prove it!
