As you said...

  1. You don't have an advanced anchor.
This is true but that's exactly whats you're fighting for by hitting loose.
  2. Opponent does not have blots in his/her inner board.
No blots but blots around which hinder the effectiveness of any other plays you may have.
  3. You do not have the stronger board.
There are many, many occasions that arise in bg where we hit when having the weaker board. Too numerous to name.
  4. You don't have more checkers back.
Also true but this is a weak inclusion in the safe v. bold criteria to begin with.

You could have also argue that the score itself may not lend towards this bold type of play...or maybe it does!? Doing what you can to secure that anchor is awfully damn important.

Truth is, while it's nice to have a list of considerations for safe v. bold play, you can go down said list, toggle off the boxes and arrive at the correct answer a lot of the time. It's not that easy of a game. Here, as is often the case, it's that the other options are so bad that the stand out play stands out.

If you put a spare from the 8pt back to the midpoint now 20, 8 would be best because we are unstacking the midpoint and fortifying the 8pt instead of semi stripping the midpoint and over stacking the 8pt as in the original.

If we sucked the opp's split back all the way to the 23pt so that there would be no added indirect shots and the race was a few pips better now running hops out into the lead.

There are many changes we can make to try to better understand the position. These were a couple of the obvious ones.
