Backgammon clock rules - introduce standard, rapid and blitz?

What is the reason for wanting different time restrictions on tournaments?

I like the idea of having events be unique from one another. Like in golf you have stroke play, match play, and Stableford scoring. You have links, hearthland, and parkland courses. Tennis has clay, grass, and hard courts. Each event requires different skill sets to master.
