Stick's Rule Pays Off

Thanks for the replies -- I'm always eager to finer-tune my sense of these sorts of guidelines and 'rules'. After reading the article, I practiced playing 3a/7a games until I'd get to cube decisions and was repeatedly surprised at how little 'meaningful contact' there needed to be for the leader to hold off cubing, and to give the taker the added vig needed to take. I didn't mean to suggest my opponent was wrong to double here (as the rollout shows, it's a small cube), more that knowing the rule helped me get the Take decision right.
Neil -- you're right, I must have misremembered the sequence. I'm pretty sure White did roll a bad 55 at some point that made his position more awkward, but The actual blotting number came a roll or two later
I have the photo right here on my screen though, and the position I've posted is correct, but for the life of me though I can't figure out what my opponent must've rolled here -- I'm really bad at these reverse-puzzles. I'm starting to wonder whether the roll was 53 and we both failed to see the safe 3? It doesn't seem very likely that two players would overlook such a thing, but I guess it's possible.
Also, looking at the picture again, I'm realizing I didn't win the match on a gammon here -- I did hit and win, but won the match on a doubled gammon 2 games later. So maybe the 55 was from a neighboring game too.
I'm like the anti-Marty Storer. I played a match with him this weekend and he was able to reconstruct a couple of games we played 5 hours earlier from beginning to end. Incredible!
