Simply tacking the word 'science' onto an adjective or noun doesn't make it science, as I'm sure you (Mary) know quite well. Ditto using the title "scientist".

Education, no matter how high, doesn't make one a scientist. I constantly rail at the notion of "authoritarianism" in every part of life. Science certainly doesn't deserve an exemption there.

Believing something is easy. Investigating it is difficult. Proving it is usually impossible. Drawing conclusions with the best available knowledge, though, is commendable. Admitting that, no matter how much effort one has put forth, that the conclusions reached could be wrong is wise.
