and doing a bit of back-of-envelope scaling it appears that you are right for floating point operations. If my scaling is valid, the E9300 is ~12% faster for the SiSoft Sandra floating point test compared to the Q6700. However, the integer arithmetic appears to scale with clock speed only, so an apparent 6% loss there.
I'm pretty sure GNU-bg is much more heavily dependent on floating point arithmetic than fixed point (but someone should correct me if I'm wrong on that).
