A new PR analysis mode that considers the 'difficulty' of each roll/position

In Response To: A new PR analysis mode that considers the 'difficulty' of each roll/position (Frank Berger)

FB >> As Tim pointed out: what *is* difficulty?

Yes - this is conceptually repeating what I already asked right at the beginning of this thread: "Is it even possible to (fairly) define how 'difficult' each move / decision is?"

I/Bard have already offered some potential suggestions to consider in it's definition:

** The number of possible moves available to the player: A move with more possible outcomes is generally more difficult to evaluate than a move with fewer possible outcomes.

** The number of factors that the player needs to consider when making the move: A move that requires the player to consider a large number of factors is generally more difficult to evaluate than a move that requires the player to consider a small number of factors.

** The amount of time the player has to make the move: A move that must be made quickly is generally more difficult to evaluate than a move that can be made slowly.

** The player's level of skill and experience: A player with more skill and experience will generally be able to evaluate moves more easily than a player with less skill and experience.

In this thread, as a starting point, I am seeking additions / refinements to the above.

FB >> And difficult for whom?

As I stated earlier, "faced by a human"

FB >> And how to calculate the "new" PR?

I have some thoughts on this, but to maintain focus at this nascent stage, I think it best to first start with Step 1 - define a fairly robust specification for 'difficulty'

FB >> giving up a little equity to get more complexity is a pretty old idea

To keep this thread on track, this is not what I was proposing or contesting at all?

FB >> A measure of complexity would be very interesting

Agreed.

------

I could give more detail on what I think could be some potential scenarios / workflows for leveraging automatic generation of positions that the User finds 'difficult'. However, it would be a fair amount of text and it's pretty important at this stage not to distract from accomplishing Step 1, defining 'difficulty'. The rest cannot follow on without it.

Any proposed, succinct additions / refinements to the starred (**) starting suggestions above are most welcome.
