In Response To: A new PR analysis mode that considers the 'difficulty' of each roll/position (Frank Berger)

FB >> But is it a reasonable measure of difficulty of a position?

In my previous post, I did mention that all of the initial suggestions from Bard were included 'for completeness'. I think this was a mistake on my part because, although many rolls (i.e. doublets) will naturally increase in 'difficulty' with severe time pressure in live play OTB, it's inclusion in the example starting points seems to have been taken out of context.

This thread was intended to be about a training bot (a different game context from 'Live' play). I can't edit/delete that point, but to keep this thread on track, please disregard that particular suggestion.

FB>> roughly half the Genius failed for some positions when only 2 or 3 moves where possible

This sounds interesting and relevant. Are you able to quote the passage here, or is this your own summary of the content?

FB >> analyse a lot of matches and see empirical where people err and train a net on that

Yes. Of course, analysis of what to train on is a natural part of preparation for an AI 'Training' stage. As I mentioned earlier, the call for Subject Matter Expert suggestions on what makes a move 'difficult' were meant to add an additional level of verification. This human-generated list could perhaps be thought of as a supplementary tool: a 'Checklist of Coverage' or an 'Acceptance Criteria'. (In software development, it's generally best practice to identify/clearly specify 'Expected behaviours' *before* building the product to aid later verification of functionality)

FB>> look at the heatmap of the resulting position and it might be difficult if the standard deviation of the resulting moves is very different

This sounds worth confirming and is the type of insight I was hoping for - please keep them coming!
