I think the US standard of 12 sec/move +2 min/matchpoint is more than adequate but the Euro standard of 15 sec/move + 2.5 min/matchpoint is better than nothing.

Again, I think the clock settings should be tailored to the event. The Euro-settings are sufficient to get a 9-point match completed in 2 hours, (assuming players start on time!) There's no reason to force the issue, particularly now when clocks are not the custom. The whole idea is to get the rounds completed in time and that will happen with almost any time setting.

(I wish I had asked Bob K. how long his clocked match took in Novi. Bob won on time at DMP, and he was down to about 1.5 minutes bonus time, I believe. This would be a good benchmark datapoint -- it was either an 11-point match or 9-point match.)

I have a bunch of handwritten data on 7-point matches where I used both analog and digital clocks (and rules) simultaneously, so effectively the analog clock tells you how much wall clock time elapsed except for when the clock was stopped between games, which is easy to estimate. At one time I went to the trouble of entering these data into EXCEL but that was back in the days when I wasn't diligent about doing backups and the disk died....
