I'd worry about loss, damage or theft if it was in checked luggage.

Theft? Only if they thought there was $ or a computer in that 'briefcase'. (But wasn't there a 60 Minutes or 20/20 show that showed National=Reagan airport thieves? Stay away from there.) Loss or damage? Which airlines do you fly? Oh, yeh, just about any US carrier. And then there's the baggage surcharge.

Drive to BWI for a Southwest flight and carry it on. (I really like SWA, but I've watched their baggage handlers out the plane window and they're pretty rough=irresponsible, too.)
