There is a parallel in backgammon. Several people are watching a BG game. A controversial play arises. There is disagreement. Person A says he'll prop it against anyone standing there at the table. Person B runs off and puts the position into a bot (maybe doing an RO) and comes back a half hour later. "I'll take that bet!"
