As always, "the devil is in the details". For example, I just bought a new motherboard, memory, processor, and case but used an old monitor and some harddrives I had lying around. Ditto keyboard and mouse (used ones I already had -- not that these are expensive).

BTW, if one is serious about rollouts (as I know you are) then by far and away your $ should go into CPU power. That basically means the product of number of processors times clockspeed. I see people here saying "buy dual core". That term unfortunately is becoming a misnomer since literally it means "two cores" but there are quad cores that are termed "dual core". My 'new' system (described above) has a quad core processor and it wasn't that expensive. (Upgrades I describe were < $600 of which $400 were the motherboard and processor.)

Give me a couple days to look into a racecar system. I'll post it here and challenge others to shoot it down.
