What's your opinion on the $700bn bill?

I heard and then saw in the newspaper early this week (before the House negative vote) that 78% of US was in favor of passage (from a poll). OTOH, I'm a lot more skeptical of polls than most, and I don't mean just the ones I disagree with. Our local US House Rep was in town Tuesday and was getting a lot of "we don't want to bail out speculators..." according to TV and newspaper reports. Then again, we all know that "the squeeky wheel gets the grease". So I think it depends a lot on who you ask.
As you were alluding to, there is an election in six weeks and ALL US House seats are open. Interesting how that affects the voting. If this were January I suspect the current 'concern' for the constituencies' opinions would be much less.
What I personally want is for there NOT to be another depression. I don't know which path gives us the best chance of avoiding that. I hope the federal government (esp. House) is taking their time so as to decide which path to choose leads to that end.
Do I think Joe Blow on the street knows which path is better, or even considers it? Don't make me laugh.
