Advice for a virgin

If you are driving it's a no-brainer to just put the board in your car. You don't need to bring it inside but will have it just in case. It's unusual for two players to be paired and neither have a board, but when that happens you can often borrow a board. For example, this weekend Bob K. borrowed my board twice to play matches. Bob might be the only player in the world who brings a clock to a tournament, but not a board. :)

If you have a chance, enter some kind of earlybird jackpot or other small entry fee event before the main event. I always do that because I seldom play face-to-face except at tournaments. For me it serves to "get the rust out". Well, that's my theory although this weekend I went 0-2 in the pre-main and then 0-3 in the main. Next time I'm bringing Rustoleum.
