Did the clock timeout occur in a non-contact position? Was it a gin position? A player can stop the clock and claim or concede a gin position.
Even if this was not gin but was non-contact, at DMP, I'd really like to hear the point of view of the person who claimed a win this way. There is the letter of the law and the spirit of the law. My knee-jerk reaction is to judge harshly and add to Jason's pox. Thinking I would never do anything like that. But maybe they really needed the money. Maybe they just didn't like Larry. The more I think on this, the more convinced I am that this guy probably isn't the only guy who would take a win this way. I wouldn't. I can say I wouldn't. But what if it was $100,000 winner takes all? You just really don't know. (I'd claim it and split the 100 grand with Larry).
But if there was still contact, I can see the opponent's case. It is possible he could hit a checker and the game could continue for an indeterminate number of moves.
It would be interesting to know what the exact position was when time ran out.
