Although I understand the sentiment, I don't think we should unequivocally firebrand the match winner here. First off, it's against the ABT rules to concede a game/match unless the result is a foregone conclusion (i.e. it's impossible to win). Secondly, the clock signals when a player's turn is live/completed. So he can't just let his clock run and tell his opponent "play your turn on my clock".
In addition, there is something at stake for others (Calcutta owners). This is not clearcut, either. I've always railed against the opinion I've heard expressed "you should take advantage of opp's illegal moves since you have others (calcutta) who have interests in you winning the match" as a reason for not playing unilateral legal moves. But Larry's opponent may well have been weighing the Calcutta consideration, which from his point of view could be a dilemma.
We are in the early stages of clock usage here in the US. There are going to be some changes that arise when some of these unexpected situations crop up. For example, could Larry's opponent have centered both clocks and summoned a director to discuss the situation? I don't know. That would have been what I would have done (I hope) in his shoes (if I thought about it OtB) but reading the clock rules, there's supposed to be "a dispute" before stopping the clock (and a few other situations which don't apply here, either). Can one player stop the clock for an internal dispute?
