Back to Clocks

Good thoughts overall, and I agree with just about everything you said. As is human nature, let me pick out the one thing I disagree with:
...Maybe TDs should keep a list of the slow players and clock them. I'm beginning to see some merit to that. Now, there may not even need to be an official list. TDs talk to each other and know most of the players, and they know who the slowpokes are.
How do we "know who the slowpokes are"? This is subjective. If you have a clear measuring tool, then fine. We don't. (And I predict we won't, because it's too much trouble.) I can't tell you how many times I've finished a match and had someone tell me "oh, I heard you were a slow player. You're not."
The other problem is that favoritism can creep in. A famous (strong) player happens to be a slow player, but you wouldn't want to get on his bad side, so.... Meanwhile bottom-of-the-open level player is also known to be slow -- clock him.
There's an easy way to avoid this unfair subjectivism (is that a redundancy?): have an objective rule for clocking (e.g. all matches clocked, but that's not the only one) and be done with it.
Whenever I go to a "clocks allowed" Open, I'm clocking every match. If someone sits down and whines that I'm picking on them, let's see what they say when I tell them my 'rule'. (May not help, but that's their problem, not mine.) BTW, Jeb's Ty being "clocks allowed" is giving me strong incentive to attend. Seriously.
