Stuffing down throats

Yah, I've heard this too many times. Make a blacklist of slow players. Then we can have a Salem witch hunt and burn them all at the stake. Without the drama :) , the main issue is that there is no fair way to assign "slow" status. Here even Art admits to that. He says fast players will take advantage of slow players -- then says slow players must play against the clock against EVERYONE. So the fast players get to take advantage of the slow players either way.

If people like Art really think threats to not attend tournaments is worth something, I suspect the pro-clockers can put up an even better boycott, particularly if number of tournaments attended is the scorecard. But that just hurts everyone and potentially kills tournament BG in the US for a LONG time.

This whole concept of "punishment" makes me sick. I've always been against that concept as a reason for the BG rules. That's not only NOT the purpose of clocks, but if anything there will be LESS punishment to all involved (directors and players) if clocks are used. What is more punishing, being aided in speeding up one's play or having to wait many hours to start or match or having to stay up deeply into the next morning? The answer to that (for me, anyway) is a no-brainer.
