In Response To: Is BGO an Elitist Society? (Stick)

Quick answer to the question, HELL NO!

Stick writes, "It's of no surprise that ppl like Neil, Chuck, MCG, Mislav, Daniel, etc.. etc.. post, they're all bg addicts who get their daily fix by coming here and they're strong players to boot."

If I'm the Daniel that Stick refers to, I'm blushing, because while I confess to being a bg addict, I don't consider myself to be strong at all. I feel I'm a middle of the road intermediate/advanced level player, who has been fortunate to win a couple of trophies, one 2nd pl in the main and a 2-pt quickie tournament. Heck, I got 2 of the 3 NEXTs in Kit's latest online match WRONG!

I certainly don't think that BGO or backgammon players are Elitest. While I'm not naturally outgoing, I've attended enough ABT events to know that backgammon players are the friendliest people in the world, and I have no qualms about introducing myself to world class players and have them be genuinely interested in me.

I really love this and Kit's site for the amount of learning that I get from seeing the online matches and discussions of plays, either from tournaments (Thanks MCG for all your Vegas posts) or just interesting games. I can't currently afford lessons from a top player, but seeing Neil, Stick, Riles, John, MCG and others express their opinions and more important to me, the rationale behind their decisions has helped my game tremendously. I feel I've improved enough to have a fighting chance against Neil in a 15 pt match if he spots me 14 pts and we start the crawford game with my having a closed home board with a spare on the 4,5 & 6 while he has none off and 3 on the bar. But only a fighting chance. Oh, and I can have Nack help me. LOL

Please folks, lurk if thats where you feel comfortable, but as I'm sure you've heard before, there are no dumb questions. If you don't understand something, you've probably got plenty of company, so speak out and use the resources of these wonderful great players. Attend live tournaments if you have the opportunity, you'll rarely have as much fun, even if you lose all your matches!
