You probably should build a 'scorecard' which shows processor speed as a function of processor model number. Most retailers don't tell you that. (Frickin Best Buy hardcopy ads won't even tell you the processor number. You have to go into the store and ask, or get the entire computer model number -- fineprint in the ad if you're lucky -- and look that up at the manufacturer's website. BTW, Best Buy got bad ratings in PCWorld.)
The CPU manufacturers have the model to speed conversion but there may be easier ways to find that on the web, i.e. get all available models vs. speed on one page. At the processor manufacturer sites they tend to break them into groupings meaning you may have to search multiple pages.
Here's a place to look for comparisons, particularly good for AMD vs Intel. You can find the clockspeeds of these models in small print here (e.g. '2400') and in most cases you can then scale by clockspeed by manufacturer for ones that aren't listed here.
