The variance of the number of moves per point (and also of the average "difficulty" of moves) is higher in a short match. This suggests that the ideal time control should be sublinear in match length.

But I agree with Neil; simplicity is important. Happily 1 and 2 points are not mainstream match lengths, at least in main events. It's easy enough to specify a custom time control for a side event with short matches (or variant rules -- see Nackgammon thread).
